The island is privately owned. Tour operators get permission for their guests and deal with the caretaker.
Caution: The crossing is open sea and can be rough even on a sunny day. Boats leave the island by mid to late afternoon, about 3 to 4 PM.
Caution: There's no fresh water on the island. Tours normally provide meals, but bring extra drinking water and snacks. In April 2026 a visitor collapsed during an Onok tour; an initial assessment pointed to dehydration.
Don't touch, ride or chase the turtles. In 2023 the provincial board called for strict enforcement of the Wildlife Act at Onok to stop visitors interacting with them.
Fees, and whether you can stay overnight, have changed several times. Ask your operator what applies now.
