San Miguel Corporation holds titles to about 7,000 hectares of Bugsuk, and its property arm plans an eco-luxury resort there. The Sambilog–Balik Bugsuk Movement opposes the project, saying the land is ancestral land. Some stretches of beach are closed to visitors.
The Katala Foundation says its cockatoo project sites on Bugsuk and Pandanan are closed to visitors for security reasons. Punta Sebaring is visited with tour operators.
Caution: Sand flies (niknik) are bad at Punta Sebaring. Bring strong insect repellent and a rash guard.
Caution: Saltwater crocodiles live in Barangay Sebaring, which covers Bugsuk's southern tip. In January 2026 a crocodile killed a resident at night near the mangroves there, and a 10.9-foot crocodile was later captured. Read the crocodile safety guide
