Before you go

What you'll find

  • A long beach lined with coconut palms, some leaning low over the sand
  • Chocolate-chip starfish on a sandbar a few minutes away
  • Sunsets from the west-facing beach

Good to know

  • The sandbar shows at low tide; when the tide is in, the water over it is about waist-deep. The starfish are most plentiful from about October to March.
  • Leave the starfish in the water. Lifting them out for photos harms them.
  • Caution: Crocodiles have been seen around Candaraman, and boatmen keep watch at the sandbar. Ask yours before you swim. Read the crocodile safety guide
  • Plan the trip itself with the getting-here guide and the safety guide.
